Right now, our emergency shelter is full—beyond full.
Since the cold weather began in October 2025, 670 individuals have stayed in our shelter.
Each night, more men and women come to our doors than we have beds for.
As a result of an emergency meeting with government officials, 20 cots were brought to our shelter. Those cots are now set up in our day center so that everyone who comes to us has a place to sleep at night.
It’s not ideal. It’s not permanent. But I am sure of one thing: it’s "carrying the fire". That phrase comes from my favourite book, The Road by Cormac McCarthy, a story of walking forward through a broken world, choosing goodness when despair would be easier.
As Easter approaches, this feels especially meaningful. On the night before Jesus's death, there was no light—no certainty—no visible victory.
And yet, the fire burned on. Love was present. Hope remained. Easter reminds us that even in the darkest moments, God is still at work, renewing life when it seems impossible.
The cots in our day center are a temporary solution, but the needs they represent are ongoing. Each additional guest requires food, staffing, linens, security, and care.
To continue opening our doors to everyone who comes seeking shelter, we urgently need your help.
This Easter season, I’m asking you to give as generously as you can. Your donation will help ensure that when someone arrives with nowhere else to go, there is warmth, safety, and a place to rest. We may not be able to fix everything—but together, we can carry the fire, and put love into action.
With hope and gratitude,
